“Was not their mistake once more bred of the life of slavery that they had been living?—a life which was always looking upon everything, except mankind, animate and inanimate—‘nature,’ as people used to call it—as one thing, and mankind as another, it was natural to people thinking in this way, that they should try to make ‘nature’ their slave, since they thought ‘nature’ was something outside them” — William Morris

NYC Play Inspired by “Queer Ecology”

I found out about a play that's based in part on my essay “Queer Ecology.” It's called Carla and Lewis and it's by the Ecocide Project; Una Chaudhuri is the “dramaturg.” Details and ticket are on their blog: the show happens next week between March 10 and March 19.

I like the part of the description that talks about developing “forms of performance that answer the imperatives of ecology.” You can make a nice association with Lingis there...not sure if intentional, but the plural sure does work...
